Getting started

Do you need a WhatsApp chatbot for your small business in Pakistan?

A chatbot isn't for every business. It pays off when the same questions arrive all day and some of them arrive when nobody can answer. This guide helps you decide honestly, and shows what to get ready first.

1. What a WhatsApp chatbot actually does

A chatbot replies to customers on WhatsApp without a person typing. Older chatbots follow fixed menus (“press 1 for prices”). Newer AI assistants read the customer's message, answer from information you gave them, and can take an order or a booking.

What it should not do: invent prices, argue with an upset customer, or answer medical or legal questions. Good ones hand those to you.

2. Signs you're ready for one

You will probably benefit if most of these are true:

  • You get the same questions every day: price, sizes, delivery, timings.
  • Customers write in the evening or at night, and some are gone by morning.
  • Replying is eating hours of the owner's or staff's day.
  • You take orders or bookings by chat and sometimes get details wrong.

3. Signs you're not ready yet

If you get only a handful of messages a day and enjoy the conversations, a chatbot adds little. Likewise if your prices and stock change every hour and nobody keeps a list: fix the list first, because a bot can only be as right as what it knows.

4. What to prepare before you start

Setup is faster, and answers better, if you have these ready:

  • Your products or services with prices
  • Delivery areas, times and charges
  • Payment methods, including cash on delivery
  • Your timings, address and return policy
  • The kinds of questions you want passed to you

5. How to choose without overpaying

Compare the real monthly cost, not the headline price: the plan, any setup fee, and, on the official WhatsApp API, Meta's per-message fees. Check that it understands Urdu and Roman Urdu, because that is how many of your customers write. And check what happens when it doesn't know: it should say so and call you, not guess.

We keep a rupee-by-rupee comparison of Pakistani and international tools, with sources and a calculator, on our price comparison page.

6. Start small and watch the first week

Switch it on for real customers, read the chats it handled, and correct any answer you wouldn't have given. The first week teaches it your business. After that you'll mostly look at the daily summary instead of every chat.
