How to send WhatsApp broadcasts to customers without being reported as spam
· 7 min read · By Chatziq Team
A broadcast can bring back customers cheaply, and a bad one can get your number restricted. The difference isn't clever wording; it's who you send to and how often. These are the habits that keep a business number healthy.
1. Message only people who have written to you
The safest list is customers who messaged you first or bought from you. Someone who has never heard of you is the person most likely to tap “report”, and reports are what get numbers restricted. Don't buy lists and don't add strangers.
2. Make opting out one word
Tell people how to stop: “Reply STOP and we won't message you again.” Then honour it immediately and for good. A customer who can leave easily doesn't need to report you.
3. Send less, and make it relevant
One useful message beats five. Match the message to the person: a customer who bought a kurta likes to hear about the new kurta range, not about a bike service. Space campaigns out, and start with a small batch to see how people react.
- Don't send the same message to everyone
- Wait before sending the next campaign
- Start with a small group, then widen
4. Say who you are and why you're writing
Start with your business name and a reason the person would care: “Salam Ayesha, it's Al Noor Boutique. The lawn you asked about last week is back in stock.” A message that explains itself gets replies; one that doesn't gets reported.
5. Use a separate number for cold outreach
If you contact new prospects at all, never do it from your main customer number. Use a separate one, keep it low-volume and personal, and send each person a single message. That way a problem with outreach never touches the number your customers rely on.
6. Watch the replies
Replies are your feedback. Many “stop” or “who is this?” messages mean you've gone too wide or too often. Pull back, tidy the list and slow down.
